THE RIGHT OF SIR ELTON

Sir Elton John asking for a new law protecting his AI copyrights
Publication Date:

February 25, 2025

Sir Elton John is urging the UK government to update copyright laws. AI today reproduces and arranges creative content without paying adequate remuneration to its author. His call underlines the need for a legal framework that ensures creative work is both recognized and fairly remunerated.

Music and their arrangements are protected under the Berne Convention. Sir Elton John, whose creative works have a high value, wishes to negotiate licenses for any AI adaptation. The first interest of ordinary (unknown) authors like you and me is to be published.

Identifying the adjustments made by the AI is not easy. To use tracking software efficiently, creators should specify their requirements. This requires a human brain. We have a common interest in this:

  • not restricting the broad use of our creative work with provisional and complex licenses.
  • describing in a CreaBOOK the authorship of the adaptations we claim.
  • updating our CreaBOOKs according to identified adaptations.
  • use efficient tools such as CreaPAX to ensure that our royalties are paid and that disputes will be solved.
